Furniture Tables - Playing With Shapes

If there is furniture shopping in your future, one of the things you should think about is shape. There are a lot of shapes out there and one of this year's trends in furniture and home décor fashion has to do with shapes of furniture pieces rather than what they are made of.

One of the hottest trends for 2010 in home furnishings is having some fun with the shapes of furniture in your home. This can be accomplished in a few ways.

Unique Shapes

The first thing you can do is look for special and unique shapes when it comes to purchasing furniture tables for your home. Sure we all have seen the regular shapes of round, oval, square and rectangular, but why stop there. Have you seen a hexagon table? A triangle? These are a start when it comes to trying new shapes.

If you are really creative and willing to experiment with shapes of furniture in your home, you may want to look for something more fun and unique. If you look around, you will be able to find tables in shapes like zigzag, spiral, even those with differing levels, edges and slopes.

One of the things you need to keep in mind if you are going very unique with your table selection is to take your time with this. Depending on the first unique shape table you choose, it may not be able to handle too many other unique tables around it in a room. So, as you redecorate, choose one table for one a room at a time. Put it in place and see how it looks.

Over time, if that one table is not demanding all of the attention in the room you may be able to add another unique table to the space, but again, just add one at a time so you don't overdo it.

Mixing Shapes

The other option you have is to mix up shapes a little bit when it comes to your furniture tables. What this means is to buck that traditional trend that tells you all of your tables and shapes need to match in a room. Instead of a set of three square tables, maybe you can trade one out for a triangle and another out for a circular table.

In many cases if you are going to try to go this route, you will want to make sure to still have matching or at least similar materials when it comes to the tables you are choosing so they are not so different that they fail to work as a set. Using similar materials, but different shapes show that you were making a specific statement in your furniture selection.

This is especially effective and appropriate in a modern or contemporary decorated home. After all, contemporary homes are often based on the idea of geometric designs and shapes and a variety of tables in varying shapes throughout a room can do their part to expand upon that theme.
